Within the College, there are ranks to designate how far someone has traveled on their heraldic journey. There are specific requirements, or tasks, that must be met in order to advance to the next rank.
In addition to the standard ranks, we also have ranks for our youth heralds. If at any point a youth feels ready to attempt the requirements for the standard ranks, they are more than welcome to do so. Their junior rank will also be considered in their advancement through the standard ranks.
A list of each rank with all members can be found at the bottom of this page.
For details about the three youth ranks, please view the Youth Ranks page. The goal for these was to give our youth a chance to learn about heraldry early and become more involved in what we do. We want them to have a good general understanding of the different aspects of the field, in hopes that they will enjoy it enough to continue into the adult ranks. We have kept the focus on in-person classes and activities to both make it easier for our junior members and to provide them with an adult support network of senior heralds.
For details about the adult ranks, please view the Adult Ranks page. For the adults the goal was to create a progression of skills and knowledge as a person advances through the ranks. It starts with the core administrative concepts, then moves to basic heraldic knowledge. Continuing on, the next rank asks for pratical experience of the different aspects of heraldry. Finally, there is an in-depth comprehensive knowledge test to illuminate those with an exhaustive understanding of the field.
Advancing through the adult ranks is a combination of online and in-person activities, designed to make the process approachable and attainable for everyone.
While part of the ranking structure, the Herald Extraordinary rank is little different than the rest. Rather than being earned by completing a series of tests or activities, it is bestowed by Triskele to those individuals whose dedication and service have had substantial impact on the College.
